Personal Reflection

I am very excited about the opportunities that are awaiting us using technologies that I have not used before. Although I am very comfortable with MSN Instant Messenger, I am brand new to blogging, podcasting and Wiki's. I am always looking for ways to excite and interest all of my students. I am sure that with the use of the emerging technologies I will reach a few more than I had previously. I would like to set up a classroom Blog, but my students do not have email addresses. I am wondering if this will be an obstacle.

Hi Karen,

I enjoyed chatting with you tonight on the MSN Messenger. As you can see, I am just getting around to posting blogs. Hopefully the strike will be over soon. I see it as a needed break in my mind, but I guess since I am not in the classroom anymore I don't have to count the days until the next holiday. Inner city teaching was pretty hectic and rough for me in Dallas ISD.

Karen, my friend. Even though I've used blogs and wikis for a while, I'm still trying to figure out pedagogically sound methods for their use. I now have a video iPod (one from work) to play with. There are a lot of possibilities out there, it's up to us to find good ways to use them.

Nia,
Somehow I missed this message, I hope that you do not think that I was ignoring you! The strike is over. I have been back to work for 2 and one half days. I am very glad to be back to work, however, I am not at all happy with the contract we are being offered. I guess, in the grand scheme of things, that I am glad that I am not working for Ford Motor Co.! I have always taught in the inner city, and I do love my job. Thanks for popping in...:-)

David,

Always a pleasure to see you. I am hoping for some insight here also. I have so many visions of what I want to do, I just need to figure out how to get there! I got a video iPod for my last birthday. I have lots and lots of songs on it, a few pictures (mostly of my grandbaby), and a few podcasts that I have subscribed to. I would like to have my 8th graders create podcasts. I was thinking of maybe a weekly news podcast detailing school events and happenings.

Hi Karen:

I am glad that the strike finally ended. I enjoy using the blog as well. The only problem is that it is blocked by our filter at school. Oh well. Have a great day. Dianne

Karen,

I wonder how we can time and date stamp our messages. You were not late in responding. I responded the night after we got off the chat. I wonder if we have read the little help section more to learn how to time and date stampe the messages. I would also like to see a spell checker. I was so glad when Walden switched from Blackboard to Ecollege so that we could have spell checker.

Dianne,

I am afraid that SmartFilter, the system we use at my school, will also block me. We have just been back a few days and I have not had time to see if it goes through. I am hopeful!
