I am very excited by this week's discussion. I am very interested in using blogging in my classroom. The major obstacle that I need to overcome is that my students do not have email addresses. I am looking for a blog site, especially an educational blog site, that does not require my students to have an email address. I believe that the use of blogs can enhance communication with parents, students and faculty. I also think that blogging can provide an outlet for students to express their thoughts and opinions in an open forum and allow for discussion where quieter students may be less inhibited.
I am also very glad that I am able to complete many of these assignments at work as I have been working some crazy hours. I am working on implementing the school website, writing a two grants, and setting up Accelerated Reader for my school. Of course, this all needs to be done yesterday or sooner. I do not think that I have left school before 9 pm a single day this week....It is also a very busy week at my other job. I am glad that I do not need much sleep!
I was wondering if anyone in the class uses Skype?? I have been very pleased with it thus far. Hope everyone has a great week!

EDUC-8823 - David Peter
EDUC-8823 - David PeterI am really trying to become comfortable with blogging. So much so that I have purchased a book that was recommended by a colleague of mine who found it helpful to read as she was trying to understand this program and to get comfortable with it.
I for one will have to make a real effort to get to know as much as I can about blogging. I have not used it much until now. However I do recognise that it has some potential as a classroom tool.
I guest that we will have to use it as a tool.

Personal Reflection Week 3
This has been a hectic week! I have enjoyed the readings this week and again am intrigued with the power of the technology available to us. While looking for sites to use in the discussion questions this week, I was able to find sites that I want to use in my own classroom. I do enjoy the more hands on aspects of this course compared to other courses I have taken recently. I also believe that the information I am gathering in this class will serve me well in my classroom. Are there any specific areas of this week's reading that you felt was most appropriate for your use?

Personal Reflection
I am very excited about the opportunities that are awaiting us using technologies that I have not used before. Although I am very comfortable with MSN Instant Messenger, I am brand new to blogging, podcasting and Wiki's. I am always looking for ways to excite and interest all of my students. I am sure that with the use of the emerging technologies I will reach a few more than I had previously. I would like to set up a classroom Blog, but my students do not have email addresses. I am wondering if this will be an obstacle.Thursday, September 07, 2006
Day 11 of the strike...
I am getting seriously depressed over this whole thing! The media is making this strike to be all about money, which is far from the truth. I am tired of walking the picket line, when I should be with my students. I am also running low on my savings, with no source of income on the horizon. I am also tired of the media making the teachers and the DFT (Detroit Federation of Teachers) the "bad guys". We are fighting for what we believe to be in the best interest of our students, our CEO is looking to cut anywhere he can, often at the expense of our students.
I am off to the picket lines....

We have still not reached an agreement and will still be on strike when schools begin on Tuesday September 5th.
Our CEO has decided that apparently teachers are not necessary and schools will open tomorrow without teachers in the classrooms! The classes will be "managed" by administrators, office staff, custodians, etc.
I am wondering if they are certified and highly qualified as I am required to be??
